66 250 leads the 'Fenman' off the newly relaid East Curve. It was the only train ever to use it prior to the re-opening of Whitemoor. It was on a tour of East Anglian freight lines.

I had been to Peterborough and on a whim thought I would waste a few hours here and, lo and behold, here comes 61264 on an Ely-bound special.

61264 was really shifting as it went through the station. I only waited because the crossing man told me it was coming.

I've always held the (biased) opinion that no other locos look quite as workmanlike as LNER engines. Plain, simple, black, unlike some other railways that need not be mentioned by name.

And 61264 leaves me with a healthy case of second-hand lung cancer as it heads off to Ely

61264 is returning with it's special from Ely - I never did find out where it came from.

I know I'm outside my boundaries again but it seems to be worth it. 35005 is taking water on the 'Cathedrals Express' to Norwich.

Fully watered, 35005 pulls into Ely for it's station stop, about an hour down.

60009 was held here by a signal failure for about 45 minutes. She has just moved off as I took this, motorbike and helmet flying in all directions! A real snapshot!

I can only assume that 45231, the booked power for this train, had failed as the train was early as it passed Beggars Bridge.

45231, almost a regular here, has arrived tender first from 1Z45, Kings Cross - Ely, to cross over to the Up line at Welney Road AHB.

Heading for Manea Station, first crossover west of El;y, 45231 has been turned by reversing onto Ely West Curve.

This should have been 61264, which ran early, but ex-Works 47 245 and tatty 33 025 were ample compensationas they approach March West with the 'Fenman' ecs.

33 025, in tatty DRS 'Minimodal' livery, are bound for Norwich and a busy weekend of special trains.

61264 comes out of the mist very slowly as it approaches Silt Road Crossing on the 'Fenman' special, March South's Down Distant being red.

Slowing even more, 61264 evenutally stops at March South's Distant - Stonea gateman had rung 6 bells through to South and stopped the train for no rear light.

Barely moving now, the gateman at Stonea was not familar with the red light arrangment on the trailing 33 025 and so had the train stopped - thankfully!

33 025 stops as 61264 stops around the corner. 47 245 had suffered brake problems so 33 025 was insurance for the day. Note rear light arrangements of Class 33!

Leaping into my car, I speed the 200 yards to Badgeney Road LC just as 61264 draws to a halt.

61264's fireman has no doubt just phoned March South, only to be amazed when given a reason for this unscheduled halt.

Taking me completely by surprise, 47 712 heads the Nolrwich-bound ecs for a NENTA Special on the following day, tailed by 47 703.

47 703 brings up the rear of the ecs for the special as goes under the A141 bridge. This loco is to be painted blue also.

47 703 hurtles round the bend into Whittlesea with 5Z47, the ecs of the NENTA excursion on the morrow.

47 709 brings up the rear of 5Z47 as it6 passes Platform 1 at Whittlesea.
